Important Considerations
Acclimatization: Leh is at an altitude of over 11,000 text{ feet}. Day 4 is crucial for acclimatization to prevent Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Take it easy, hydrate well, and avoid strenuous activity.
Permits: You will need an Inner Line Permit (ILP) to visit restricted areas like Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake, and Tso Moriri. This can be obtained online or through your tour operator/hotel in Leh.
Best Time to Travel: The Srinagar-Leh and Manali-Leh highways are typically open from late May/early June to mid-October. The prime travel season is June to September.
Road Conditions: The Zoji La, Khardung La, Chang La, and Baralacha La passes have challenging road conditions, especially after rain or snow. Drive carefully.
Sarchu Stay: Sarchu is at a very high altitude (over 14,000 text{ feet}). Due to the high risk of AMS, some travelers prefer to push to Jispa (lower altitude) after Tso Moriri.
Atal Tunnel: The Atal Tunnel significantly reduces travel time and eliminates the need to cross the difficult Rohtang Pass (though a permit for Rohtang may still be required if you choose the old route).
Do you have a preference for any particular mode of transport (e.g., car, motorbike, organized tour) or any specific places you definitely want to include? This will help refine the itinerary!
